back in june, i set my eyes on this little guy...

he laughed again.
i asked seth if he could tell me if he was a girl or boy. unfortunately, it's really hard to tell on goldfish, so i'm saying he's a boy...sorry flip, if you're really a girl!
seth went over the do's and don'ts of owning a fish...it's pretty simple feed him once a day and clean out his tank every week. peice of cake.
as i was walking out, i mentioned to seth that i have a couple of trips planned for this fall and i'd have to find flip a fishsitter. then he graciously said that he'd take care of him! nice...
flip got introduced to all the roommates and has made his home swimming in his tank on our kitchen table.
i did ask the girls to limit their seafood diet in front of him...ha! ha!
the only other thing that needs to be done is that i'd like to find stickers to put his monogram on the fishbowl... :)
love,
alison

and was completely smitten.
but, he already had a home waiting for him and i reasoned with myself that having a dog is a huge responsibility that i'm not sure i am ready to make quite yet. plus, my roommate, kate already has a little four legged friend (oscar) and adding another dog to the mix could get out of control.
i've never owned a pet on my own. growing up, my family always had a cat, but i was never solely responsible for them.
so i started thinking...how can slowly start out this process of eventually working my way up to owning a dog or cat?
i neglected to think of a plant....
enter (drumroll please) the newest member of my family:
flipper tank enochs "flip"
isn't he one good looking goldfish?!
on the wednesday i picked flip up, i stopped by ed's pet world after work to check out what kind of fish they had. once i walked in, i was greeted by seth. he asked what i was looking for, which my response was "a fish".
"you should take a look at our beta fish."
my response: "how long do beta fish usually live?"
"they can live for a long time. some live 10 to 15 years."
to which i replied, "seriously?! that's great, i think i want something with a little shorter of a lifespan. tell me about goldfish."
he laughed.
and then i felt like a horrible person.
i explained that this is just a "stepping stone" into working my way up to dog.
he laughed again.
then he led me around to where the goldfish were. once we were there, we had to wait for a turtle (literally) to move out of the way so i could stand where he was walking. yes, the largest turtle i've ever seen in my life...
i looked all through the glass at the goldfish and loved the coloring of flip...so that's how he was chosen. not to mention, he's got quite a little personality...he did not want to get in the bag and tried to swim away when seth put the net in the water.
i asked seth if he could tell me if he was a girl or boy. unfortunately, it's really hard to tell on goldfish, so i'm saying he's a boy...sorry flip, if you're really a girl!

Alison. I love this. You crack me up. ;)
ReplyDeleteYou know you live in the South when you put a monogram on everything! I was given a monogrammed umbrella and hand sanitizer pump from my students!
